Disposition:
he's old! — The Darkling is villainous, but he wasn't always that way. In truth, his personality is the product of a long, depressing life narrowing his world views into the black and white — what harms Ravka, and what helps it. That which benefits the Grisha, and the prejudices that stand against development. Of course, the subject of right and wrong gets a little dicey when human and Grisha lives are thrown into the hat — little flickering stars on the vast expanse of Darkling's life. Because of his age, he's seen worse times in the world and knows how bad ignorance and depravity can effect a nation. This overexposure to evil has in turn corrupted him throughout the years, changing what was at one point a wholesome hope for equality into a twisted, dark understanding that he will do evil things to get that peace, and that the consequences of his sinning actions won't matter because human lives are so fleeting.
he's full of himself! — At least, that's what he would lead you to believe. The stark reality is that the Darkling is delusional within his own mentality, and while he claims to do all in his power to aide the Grisha, what he really craves is the love of a nation. When he doesn't have it he bites back, regardless of consequence. He almost can't help himself but to lash out against the people who betray him — in many ways, and despite his long life, the Darkling could be described as nothing more than lost and lonely child in the world, forever watching people lesser than him die, if not from war and prejudice than in old age. Thus, he craves love and feels it's owed to him, because he lives on a pedestal of self-importance, amounting his long life as a dedicated sacrifice to Grisha, which they owe him for. While he'd never admit or acknowledge his own vanity, it's clear he thinks very highly of himself, without a humble bone in his body.
he has big plans! — The extent of the Darkling's ambitions really cannot be overstated. In a certain light, he's both a realist and an optimist, born from just how highly he thinks of himself. No problem ( including death ) is too big for him to overcome with wit and logic on his side. That he has a presumably unlimited amount of time at his disposal to achieve all he desires, he really hasn't faced any compelling argument otherwise that he is lesser. When he made the Fold and people outwardly criticized and loathed him, he just adopted a new persona and a different name, and started working towards binding that gap between him and the people of Ravka. Turning the devastation of the Fold into a weapon, something to threaten other nations and raise political power in Ravka through fear. He is a strategic thinker and completely patient — and not only is it a born trait, but a learned one, after years of trial and error and experience.
he won't take no for an answer! — He values little other than the goal he sets before himself, and once his attention is drawn on something, it's nearly impossible to convince him off task. There really is nothing the Darkling wouldn't do to seat himself in a position of power, claiming himself as the only quality man for the job. Sins are fleeting and irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, with the outcome being the only thing that ultimately matters. On this, he's unmoving — stubborn and impassioned both when he takes a stand on things. As with most things about the Darkling, it would probably be an attractive trait if it didn't so often end in the deaths of many, many people.
he's tired! — All that being said, the Darkling's many lifetimes amount to an age old ache in him. His ultimate decision in sacrificing himself for the good of Ravka is brought out by how exhausted he is — no less powerful and no less ambitious than he's ever been, but ready to risk the rest of his long life in dedication of the people of Ravka, as it always has been. In exchange for the recognition of him as a saint, guaranteeing him the love of the people, he'd offer anything, including the forfeit of his known existence. Truly, the folly of powerful men with aspirations. The Darkling is, at the end of the day, his own demise — which is suitable for a man like him.
Suitability:
Given that the Darkling is a Grisha, the idea of a power manipulating and changing his body is not that far out of left field for him. Since the powers that be only make him stringer and more adept, he'll have no issues with the bodily changes this game provides as, in his mind, more power is always a good thing, and he's of the mind to collect assets. Also given his canon point, he'll actually find his arrival to Noctium to be a bit of a relief — he can forgive all the oddities of it, as he's just happy to have a little break in his perpetual torture. The hardest thing for him to get used to would be the modernization of his surroundings, but he's adaptable and smart enough that he'll be fine with learning.
Condition upon arrival:
The Darkling has been cursed to live an eternity suffering in planes between worlds — neither alive or dead, just being. So, he's arriving on the end of being metaphysically torturedin his soul.spirit, but nothing physical. He'll be whole, though not technically in his own body which was destroyed. His spirit currently resides in the body of a young monk named Yuri, so I think it still works with the rules about coming to Noctium before death — he isn't technically dead, and he still has a physical body to run around in.
Abilities:
The Darkling is a Shadow Summoner, which means he can summon and control shadows to his liking. This includes being able to fade into shadows unnoticed, and also forming shadows into a concrete weapon. Other than that, as I said he's in the body of Yuri, so he can subtly tweak their self to be more representative of the Darkling, or of the monk. Essentially, he has two different faces he can work with.
